At the Burning Bush God identifies Godself as "ehyeh asher ehyeh" "I Will Be What I Will Be." In other words, "I'm becoming what I will become." We, as created in God's image, are too in the process of Becoming: a never-ending journey of learning and change, and hopefully, growth. Unsurprisingly, Jewish tradition has a lot to offer by way of guidance as we make our way down that path of becoming, including some meme-able gems of stories.

Such classics as the story about Zusya, who, at the end of his life anticipates being asked why he wasn't more like himself. And the one about the yeshiva student so eager to learn the Torah of life that he sneaks into his teacher's house and hides under his bed and then it gets awkward - but poignant! Texts that remind us to ground our choices in that which is life-giving, awe-affirming, and deeply rooted in the journey of the soul.

In this three week course we will encounter texts from across the literary tradition that you can keep in your back pocket for when those moments of growth present themselves, so you can be more like yourself in your process of becoming.

C.B. Souther (they/them) is an independent rabbi and certified professional coach living and working in the Pacific Northwest. They believe that a greater attention to healing, meaning-making, and personal identity work is an integral part of Tikkun olam - the work of completing & healing the world. After a decade of serving in congregational settings, they left to hang up their own shingle to offer direct services to those seeking greater meaning and fulfillment in their lives. In their day to day work, C.B. supports a broad array of folks (both Jewish and not) through lifecycle rituals, spiritual direction, coaching and 1:1 Jewish learning. This way of working with and serving humanity is what they sought to do in becoming a rabbi: walking with people along the path of being (and becoming more) human.
