Dan and Lex: Judaism Unbound Episode 285 - Hindsight is (Pew) 2020

Dan and Lex continue their deep-dive into the Pew Research Center's recently-released study on Jewish Americans. They also bring in another study of American Jews -- the Jewish Electorate Institute's (JEI’s) National Survey of Jewish Voters -- which garnered a number of headlines due to its findings around shifting approaches of American Jews to Israel-Palestine.

[1] There are a lot of numbers/percentages from studies thrown around in this episode! So that you’re able to soak them in most effectively, it may be worth having the studies themselves visible to you as you listen. You can access the Pew 2020 study of Jewish Americans here, and the JEI’s National Survey of Jewish Voters here.

[2] This episode continues a conversation that began in last week’s Judaism Unbound episode, featuring Tema Smith. Listen to it by clicking here —> Episode 284: Jews in Pew’s…Studies - Tema Smith.

[3] Dan mentions a daily Jewish ritual created by Mandy Patinkin, which Dan has adopted. Learn more about Patinkin’s ritual here!

[4] Dan and Lex allude to headlines, generated from the JEI survey, around the percentage of American Jews that agree with the statement “Israel is an Apartheid state.” One article analyzing that data, written by Ron Kampeas, is entitled “A quarter of US Jews agree that Israel ‘is an apartheid state.’” You can read it via this link.

[5] For an article, not specifically about Jewish population studies, but critiquing many Christian-centric tendencies in sociological studies of American religion, see “Gen Z’s Religious Affiliation State are Confusing…but only when viewed from a Christian-centric perspective,” by Brook Wilensky-Lanford.

[6] See below for the meme Dan mentioned about intermarriage and the Jewish future.
