Conversion to Judaism — Beyond Blood Quantum: Judaism Unbound Episode 387 - Juan Mejia

Juan Mejia, a conservative rabbi who serves as Jewish educator for Emanuel Synagogue in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, joins Dan and Lex for a conversation exploring how Judaism must -- in order to have its maximum positive impact on the world -- embrace converts as fully and authentically Jewish. This episode is the second in an ongoing Judaism Unbound mini-series, exploring conversion to Judaism.

[2] For a piece from early in Mejia’s career, chronicling his conversion to Judaism and his initial work advocating for other converts, see this 2007 piece in Ha’aretz, entitled “In Spain Our Name Was Messiah.”

[3] Lex mentions a study, which shows Jewish Sunday-schools around the country have been shrinking in recent years. Check out that study, from the Jewish Education Project, by clicking here.

[4] Mejia references 929 — a project that encourages Jews to read their way through the full 929 chapters of the Tanakh (Hebrew Bible). Learn more about it via this link.

[5] Learn more about the Johnson-Reed Act of 1924, the act that Lex referenced, which severely restricted immigration by European Jews to the United States, via this link.
