This playlist seeks to weave together our concealed queer Jewish history with contemporary Jewish ideas about gender, sexuality and social and political queerness to paint a picture, albeit incomplete, of Queer Judaism. Rabbinic and biblical figures have been read and understood as genderqueer, bisexual, homosexual or asexual for millennia, not just by contemporary Jews but throughout history and often by their own peers. These “hidden” queer histories run alongside the silenced stories of women, witches, heretics and anyone pushed to the fringes of Jewish culture.
